There are birds in my chimney every spring. What are they?
In an older uncapped masonry chimney, almost certainly chimney swifts. They are a migratory species protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, so while a nest is active nobody may lawfully remove it — not us, not anyone. The real fix is a cap installed after they fledge, which ends the cycle instead of repeating it every spring.
Can you get bats out any time of year?
No, and be careful with anyone who says otherwise. Alabama Extension guidance is that bat exclusion belongs outside the pupping season, roughly April through August, because one-way doors installed while the young are flightless seal them inside.
